Edge Tape Size Guide

Ultimate Edge Tape Sizing Guide

Our colored edge tape comes in two sizes with different widths (Large, Small).  This guide will help you select the right size for your paddle.

Most Cases

Our general guidance for selecting the appropriate size is the following:

Large – Is intended for 16mm paddles with an edge guard.  It will also fit thicker paddles.  This includes thicker edgeless paddles such as the Selkirk Luxx.  If you have a paddle with a 15mm core you can also use our Large edge tape.

Small – Is intended for 13-14mm paddles with an edge guard.  It will also fit 16mm edgeless paddles.

Exception Cases

It is possible to use the Large size on some thinner paddles and the Small size on thicker paddles in some cases.  Here are the things to keep in mind if considering doing this.

Small on a 16mm paddle with edge guard (Easiest Installation!) – It is definitely possible to put our Small size tape on a standard 16mm paddle with zero issues.  It will actually be an easier installation and could be an option for someone worried about wrinkles.  The tradeoff is that you will get less visual coverage and see more exposed edge guard between the edge of the tape and the paddle face.  This is less noticeable when your edge guard and the edge tape color are both dark or both light.  You will still have sufficient protection because it should still wrap completely around the outer portion of your edge guard.

Large on a 14mm paddle with edge guard – This is possible, and in many cases can result in almost 100% coverage of your edge guard.  However, the extra width may take some additional attention to detail to perfectly center the edge tape so that you don’t end up with excess tape going beyond the edge guard and touching the hitting surface of the paddle on one side.  It will also take some extra care to avoid wrinkles at the corners.  A little tighter stretch during the initial application will help with this.  Because the Large size is 2mm wider, there is just less margin of error for centering your tape on the edge guard. But this is absolutely possible for someone with the attention to detail to do this.

Thin paddles (Less than 13mm, or any edgeless paddle 14mm or thinner) – For a thinner paddle with an edge guard it may be possible to use our Small size tape, but taking extra care to perfectly center the tape on your edge guard.  For any edgeless paddle 13mm or thinner,  you can contact us if you are interested in a made to order custom narrow width edge tape.  We can make them in any color to properly match the thickness of your specific paddle.
