FAQs

What size edge tape do I need?

Our edge tape comes in 2 sizes with different widths to fit most paddles.

Large – Fits 16mm paddles with a standard edge guard or thicker edgeless paddles

Small – Fits 13-14mm paddles with a standard edge guard, or 16mm edgeless paddles

For a more in depth explanation which will also cover some exception cases see our Edge Tape Size Guide.

I have a really thin paddle (i.e. Selkirk 008 10mm)  What size do I need?

Our Small size will fit down to a 13mm paddle with a standard edge guard.  Contact us for anything thinner than 13mm, or anything edgeless thinner than 16mm.  We offer make-to-order thin width edge tape upon request to fit your specific paddle.

Will your edge tape make my paddle heavy?

No, our edge tape is quite light at an average weight of 3.5 grams for a full 31” length of tape.  This is about half the weight of many other edge tapes.  When spread around the perimeter of your paddle, that minimal amount of weight isn’t noticeable for most people.

Will adding this tape affect the balance point or swing weight of my paddle?

Technically, yes.  Since the tape is applied to the full perimeter of your paddle head there is a very small amount of weight added above your stock paddle’s balance point.  So your balance point and swing weight will be minimally higher.  But the difference is small and most players won’t notice any minor difference.

I have weighted tape on my paddle.  Do I need to remove it?

No, our tape can go right over your existing weighted tape for a much cleaner look.  If you are using lead tape, our tape will cover the lead so you aren't touching it when handling your paddle.   By covering your weighted tape with our edge tape you will also have an added measure of protection against your weight coming off.  If you are using any of the clip on weights, you would put those on over our edge tape.

I covered my weighted tape with your edge tape but I want to change my weight setup.

It is possible to carefully lift our edge tape to expose your weighted tape so you can make weight changes.  Once done, you can wipe that area clean with isopropyl alcohol and then reapply the edge tape and then warm with a hair dryer or heat gun while pressing back into place.  Just do this one side at a time taking care to not get anything stuck on the adhesive side of the tape after lifting it to expose your weights.

Is it difficult to install?

It is not difficult to install our Ultimate Edge Tape.  We have an installation video that shows you how to properly install it to get a clean wrinkle-free finish using just a hair dryer.  It takes an average of about 15 minutes to install our tape on a clean paddle.

Why do I need to use a hair dryer or heat gun?

A hair dryer or heat gun is used to make the tape more flexible so that it can more easily wrap around the corners of your paddle without wrinkles.  Warming the tape also activates the adhesive which makes the tape adhere better.  If you use a heat gun, it should be on a low setting and may need to be held further away from the paddle during use to avoid excessive heat.  OR, just use a hair dryer set to low air flow, medium to high heat.  The idea is to warm up the tape, but not necessarily your paddle.  It only takes a few seconds of hot air to sufficiently warm up the tape a small section at a time as you work your way around the perimeter of the paddle.

My paddle has a sticky residue from another brand of edge tape when I removed it.  What do I need to do?

You must completely clean the edge guard before installing our tape.  This includes removing any old tape adhesive.   Old tape residue is typically easiest to remove using an adhesive remover.  We found some of the citrus-based adhesive removers work well for this.  But note that many adhesive removers can leave an oily residue on your edge guard.  Once your paddle is free of any old adhesive, you must fully remove all traces of  any oily residue using isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol before installing our tape to ensure proper adhesion.  Failure to remove all oily residue will prevent your new tape from adhering and will most likely ruin the tape.

Will your edge tape leave sticky tape residue when I remove it?

Generally not.  In 99% of the cases we have observed, our tape removes cleanly with no traces of adhesive left behind by simply peeling it off when it is time to change it.  In very rare cases we had the tape react to a painted edge guard and want to leave some residue behind after being left on that paddle for many months.  However, this can typically be prevented by first warming up the tape with a hair dryer just prior to removal, and then removing it slowly.  This would only be necessary in the rare case that you notice the tape starting to leave some adhesive behind.

Can I use your edge tape if I play in tournaments?

Yes! Lots of tournament players are using our edge tape, including some PPA pros.  If you plan to play in tournaments on a regular basis we would suggest avoiding the holographic/hologram colors though since those are more reflective than all of the other color options.  There are also options to tone down the sheen on any of our non-matte tape colors if a more matte look is desired.  Contact us for more information.

I have a Boomstik and want a color that is not available in your Boomstik kit.

Our Boomstik kits offer the convenience of precut pieces for each of the three sections of your paddle (above and below the MOI weights) and the option to use different colors for the top and bottom.  But if you want to use a color that is not currently available in our kits, you can simply order our regular tape (size Large) in the desired color.
